Big Ben Mania is sweeping my hometown. If you don't know who Ben Roethlisberger is, you evidently don't watch any football whatsoever. I'm not going to be too quick to buy into it. As Burgner pointed out on the last post, I was strongly opposed to the drafting of a quarterback in the first round. However, I have to admit that he is probably the real deal. There are two reasons why I find this worth mentioning. The first being that I thought it significant enough to point out that Ben himself has a blog, and make sure you check out his interview on David Letterman tonight.

Secondly, the national attention brought upon the team this year has created the opportune moment for an unruly group of Central Pennsylvania Steelers fans to start raising quite the fuckus. The NFL has proximity rules, which require any TV station within a 75 mile radius of a franchise to broadcast that teams games. This has caused quite an uproar because nobody in PA watches the Ravens. In Lancaster/Harrisburg/York, they have no choice if the games conflict. This group is going nuts about this, there's a lot of details if you want to read some articles (here, here, and here), but basically last Monday they led a protest in New York during CBS's "The Early Show." I watched, and they got no attention, but now they're turning up the pressure, and trying to take donations as well as start a flyer campaign. Through their efforts I'm beginning to understand why Ed hates the NFL, and I wanted to do my part to spread the word.

I finally discovered it. A Sports Bar/Grille that plays all the football games every week. A haven where I and those of my kind can be home: watching the Steelers and being surrounded by Steeler fans, and it is good.
